Description
This issue of Pioneer Post includes the political cartoon "Henry David Thoreau is born from a baloonery". This political cartoon focuses on some of the significant issues going on during 1971 such as debates on pollution and overpopulation among the U.S. People believed that foreign immigration to the U.S. and the amount of reproduction was causing overpopulation and was viewed as polluting America. Protesters were in an attempt to put a halt on immigration and slow down the amount of reproduction by the use of condoms and birth control. This article sheds light on how overpopulation was viewed as pollution to the U.S. At the time period, people believed that this would result in less food, more homes to create, and overall non beneficial for the United States. This article also shows some of the ways that people influenced and motivated protests towards these issues going on.
